Top 5 Reasons To Move From Staten Island To New Jersey

September 2, 2021

Considering a move from the Big Apple to the Garden State? You’re not alone! Current real estate trends show that many people from New York, particularly Staten Island, are relocating or buying residential properties in New Jersey.

Why People Are Choosing to Relocate From Staten Island to New Jersey

Is New Jersey a good place to move into?

It’s normal to have second thoughts before your big move. If you’re on the fence about the Garden State being a good place to live in, it’s good to know why people are choosing to find a home here.

Here are the top 5 reasons why New Yorkers are taking up residence in New Jersey:

  1. Lower Housing Rates. New York is one of the most expensive places in the country. It comes as no surprise that housing prices are also significantly higher in New York compared to its neighboring cities and states. One quick research online would reveal that the average home price in the Big Apple is 3x more expensive than the ones in New Jersey.

  2. More Reasonable HOAs. HOA or Homeowners Association is a non-profit, incorporated group of homeowners that develop and enforce bylaws to govern their properties. This includes imposing limits on things like move-in or move-out dates and subleasing rights. In New York, HOAs are often in charge of the care of the building where a unit or apartment is located. HOA fees are known as Maintenance Fees or Common Charges in New York. These are paid in addition to one’s mortgage payment. Although New Jersey also has HOA fees, they only apply to specific condo units, townhouses, and some gated communities. HOAs are less stringent and fees are significantly lower in the Garden State.

  3. Bigger Property Size. Dreaming of a home with a backyard and plenty of room to make your own? Looking for a more comfortable house for your growing family? New Jersey is a great fit for Staten Island residents who are looking for a more spacious home.

  4. Lesser Crowds. New York is well-known for its big crowds and packed streets. While this may not be a big issue for some, the pandemic has turned the city’s densely populated spaces into a health risk. If you’re tired of the crowds and want to live in a less densely populated community, New Jersey is the place for you. Check out these New Jersey neighborhoods that are well-loved by home-buyers.

  5. Better Public Education System. The quality of education varies from one school to another. In public schools, the quality of education can be affected by an institution’s federal, state, and local government funding. According to an NBC report, New Jersey ranked 3rd in Best School System in the US, while New York landed the 24th spot. New Jersey public schools were also noted to be the second less crowded public schools in the US. New Jersey public school students also have the second-highest reading scores and third-highest Math scores in the country.

BONUS REASON: Suburban living while staying close to New York. Another BIG reason that people are choosing to move to New Jersey from Staten Island? It’s conveniently near! You can get from Staten Island to New Jersey in 90 minutes or less. In this short amount of travel time, you’d get to enjoy the suburban living benefits of New Jersey while keeping New York close at hand.

Living in the Big Apple versus the Garden State comes with its unique pros and cons. However, these top reasons have pushed many Staten Island residents to relocate to New Jersey.

The most important thing about real estate is 𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍! The condition and price of any home can be changed. You can even change the size of the house. The one thing you can't change is the home's location. Being located near schools, public transportation and hospitals make a big difference. ✨ Some home buyers prefer to have the 𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒 prioritized. The idea of the perfect home for them has their preferred style of the home, yard, or even the flooring. Considering you will be living in this house for a year or longer, it is important to pay attention to these details. 🏡 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮? 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 👇
